Planning guide
Before you record your first podcast
Define the conversation before choosing the equipment.
Decide who the podcast is for and whether your format needs one microphone or several. A clear format makes equipment and room decisions easier.
Listen to the room. Traffic, hard surfaces and fans can affect a recording. Acoustic treatment, microphone placement and a quiet recording time all deserve attention.
Plan the full recording chain: microphones, interface or mixer, headphones, recording software and a backup. If filming, add lighting, framing and camera power to the checklist.
Arrange a short test recording before the first full session. Listen back on headphones and check the sound and picture together.
